You can learn the Four Times Table over six years at Primary School or you can cheat and become
a Times Table Teacher in a few minutes. Teaching others will encourage you to make sure you know
what you are talking about.
Layout the Four Times Table like this, including the noughts in front of 4 and 8 to keep things tidy, and to help recognise the patterns.

16 20 24
28 32 36
Notice in the third column the counting numbers1, 2 & 3, and the even numbers 2, 4 & 6 are in order?
Can you see it is easy to remember this pattern? You can use UNO CARDS or just pen and paper.
Say 3 fours are 12, 6 fours are 24 and 9 fours are 36. Now let's pop over to the other side.

Compare the pattern running down and notice that is similar to the above. The difference is that each column is one unit less than the right column above. Of course it is obvious to remember1 times 4 is
4. So for the first part of the column counting down in sequence it is now 0, 1, & 2. Then for the second part counting down it is 4, 6 & 8. Say 1 four is 4, 4 fours are 16 and 7 fours are 28.

Can you see you are almost there in using patterns to remember how to construct the answers? Now have a go at the middle column.

Notice the twos and threes are the same as for the right column? And it shouldn't be too difficult to remember that 2 fours are 8. Also notice that the answers in the centre column are 4 more than the left column and 4 less than the right column. Say 2 fours are 8, 5 fours are 20 and 8 fours are 32.
Keep teaching this and soon you will remember the Four Times Table. Cheat and Teach the Times Tables. When you are ready, move onto The Two Times Table
EXERCISE: MAKE 9 SQUARES WITH THE NUMBERS ABOVE. JUMBLE AND SEE HOW LONG IT TAKES TO PLACE THEM IN ORDER. NOT LONG?
HOMEWORK: TIDY YOUR ROOM, THEN GO AND TEACH THE TIMES TABLES
